There are many countless legends about the origins and sources of Sardinia and its first inhabitants the Ichnos.

"This island, as it seems, was once called Ichnussa (̉Ιχνοũσσα) since its perimeter reproduces a figure very like the imprint of a human foot," Pseudo-Aristotle.

At the dawn of life on earth there was only one large continent Tirrenide. It was populated by strong men and animals of every kind. One night, the wrath of God lunged Tirrenide. The earth began to shake and to be swallowed by the sea waves. Just when the end of the world was to make the god's wrath subsided and over that little piece of land that still poses emerged his divine foot managing to snatch the island waters. So it was that the great Tirrenide remained the imprint of God's invisible foot in the great expanse of sea.
