Retro photography of twentieth century. Church of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice. “A round machine that has run ever seen". So the architect Longhena Baladassarre presented his architectural design. Central and octagonal inspired by the paintings of Carpaccio and ancient baptismal fonts, alluding to salvation by faith. In religious symbolism - local politician, Venice was always associated to the Madonna so that the doge Leonardo Loredan (1436 - 1521) called the city "inviolable virgin among the lagoons". This ideology reached its maximum expression with the basilica of health holy ordered by the Senate as a votive offering to ask Our Lady for the "health" (salvation) from the terrible plague that was halving the population of Veneto.
