Photography beginning twentieth century. In the foreground the Marciana Library of Sansovino building cornerstone of the redevelopment of the Marciana place. The Florentine architect Sansovino intervention was of utmost importance from the urban point of view because it served to redefine the entire urban area of San Marco. The construction of the library was used to clean up the square from the banks of merchants and create a homogeneous profile of absolute elegance, along with Palazzo Ducale. The architect chose to imprint in his project for the original features Venetian scene, referring to the Roman models. A continuous portico, supported by Ionic arches, extends from Piazza San Marco to Riva degli Schiavoni here defined by two shoulder men they walked toward the Dorsoduro district.
